Civil Engineering Professor Organizes an International Conference on Bridge Engineering

Jimmy Kim, Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, organized the Bridge Engineering Institute Conference in 2023 (BEI-2023) held in Rome, Italy, from July 17 to 20, 2023. The conference was a forum for international researchers and practitioners around the globe who discussed state-of-the-art knowledge on bridge engineering and related fields. Four plenary speakers delivered technical presentations and more than 100 delegates from 15 countries participated in parallel sessions. During the four-day event, the President of the American Concrete Institute (Professor Antonio Nanni) gave a special talk to foster next-generation bridge engineers.

Kim’s research interests encompass bridge engineering, advanced composite materials for rehabilitation, structural informatics, complex systems, and science-based structural engineering, including statistical, interfacial, and quantum physics. He recently received the Chester Paul Siess Award for Excellence in Structural Research, the highest honor in structural concrete bestowed by the American Concrete Institute.
