Arati Gurung, BIOE PhD student, wins two research awards

Arati GurungCongratulations to Arati Gurung, PhD student in bioengineering, on two research awards. Arati has been awarded a Whitaker International Summer Grant to take her research on EchoPIV to the Image and Pattern Analysis Group at Heidelberg University. She will spend her summer in Germany.

Arati also received an NSF-sponsored award to attend the International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging ’13 in San Francisco this week. Arati is presenting a poster there.

Fulbright Scholar in India

Joshua Sperling

It’s an exciting year for Joshua Sperling. Here’s what the civil engineering PhD student has on tap for 2012-2013:

  • Travel to India on a Fulbright-Nehru Scholarship.
  • Help make cities in India and Asia healthier places to live.
  • Use his Fulbright research to complete his PhD.
  • Get married.

He can already check the first item off the list, as he’s been in the territory of Delhi, India, since September working on his research project, “Health Outcomes as a Motivator for Low-Carbon Cities: Implications for Infrastructure.”
