Alghamdi receives best paper award
Thoria Alghamdi, PhD student in computer science and engineering, received the best paper award from ICITA 2020 : XIV. International Conference on Information Technology and Applications for her paper “Two Concurrent Convolution Neural Networks TC*CNN Model for Face Recognition Using Edge.”
In her paper, she developed a model that couples two concurrent convolution neural network with different filters (TC*CNN) for face recognition and compares its performance to an existing sequential convolution neural network (CNN) as a base model. They also test and compare the quality and performance of the models on three datasets with various levels of complexity (easy, moderate, and difficult) and show that for the most complex datasets, edges will produce the most accurate and efficient results. They further show that in such cases while Support Vector Machine (SVM) models are fast, they do not produce accurate results.
The conference was held in the UK earlier this year.
Congratulations, Thoria.
CU Denver Engineering, Design and Computing View All
At the CU Denver College of Engineering, Design and Computing, we focus on providing our students with a comprehensive engineering education at the undergraduate, graduate and professional level. Faculty conduct research that spans our five disciplines of civil, electrical and mechanical engineering, bioengineering, and computer science and engineering. The college collaborates with industry from around the state; our laboratories and research opportunities give students the hands-on experience they need to excel in the professional world.
