Blueprints and Big Dreams: How Carina Pablo is Shaping Her Future in Construction
Construction Engineering and Management Major Carina Pablo tells us about her academic journey through our College of Engineering .
Carina Pablo moved to Colorado when she was three years old, and it’s been her home ever since. As a first-generation college student and a mom to two boys, Carina has faced challenges that have shaped her into the resilient person she is today. She graduated from Hinkley High School in 2014 and quickly went on to earn an Associate of Science degree in Math from the Community College of Aurora in 2015. Her journey is inspiring, especially as a non-traditional student who has balanced family life with her education.
Carina’s love for math led her to explore fields like construction and engineering. She loves the problem-solving involved and the mix of science, creativity, and skill needed in construction. For her, building something isn’t just technical—it’s like a blend of art and science that allows her to be creative and precise at the same time. Carina is also very active on campus. She started as a member of the AGC (Associated General Contractors) Student Chapter and now serves as the Events Coordinator, planning activities for the group. Carina also competed in the ASC (Associated Schools of Construction) Competition, where her team won 2nd place in the Pre-construction category in 2024. Her hard work and commitment helped her and her team stand out.
Carina’s goal is to become an estimator in the construction industry, where she can put her math and problem-solving skills to work. She also dreams of going even further in her studies to earn a master’s degree. One day, she hopes to become a teacher and eventually a professor, so she can help and mentor students, especially those from low-income or first-generation backgrounds.
In her free time, Carina loves being creative. She enjoys scrapbooking, journaling, making collages, jewelry making, and even adult coloring books. She’s a big fan of Harry Potter too and loves sharing these interests with her family.
Carina’s journey is one of hard work, determination, and a strong desire to make a difference. With her passion for construction, her commitment to family, and her goal of helping others, Carina is ready to build both a successful career and a positive impact in her community.
